How to Observe Memorial Day

Memorial day is a time when we can observe the sacrifice our soldiers have made to protect our freedom. This year on Monday, May 25, we have a chance to come together as a nation and honor those who have selflessly given their lives in service to their country, to us. Here are a just a handful of ways to observe Memorial Day this year and make the most of it.

Memorial Day Ideas

1. The easiest and one the most powerful ways to observe Memorial Day this year is to simply raise an American Flag outside of your home. Encourage your neighbors to place an American Flag outside of their homes as well. There is nothing quite like driving down the road on Memorial Day and seeing an American Flag waving outside of every house on the street. This quick step not only honors those who have given their lives in service but also encourages those who have friends and family serving our country currently.

2. Every Memorial Day cities nationwide have parades to observe the holiday. Find a parade near you and go out to show your support. Invite family and friends to come along with you as well and be sure to thank any soldiers you come across for their service.

3. Another great way to honor our lost servicemen and women is to show your appreciation to those who currently are deployed in service to our country. There are several resources available that can help you send packages to our troops at war. Supporting our current troops and making an impact in their lives is an excellent way to both observe Memorial Day and show your appreciation to our armed forces. Just a few of these wonderful web sites to check out include: www.uso.org, www.anysoldier.com, www.treatsfortroops.com and www.operationshoebox.com

4. There is a need right here, right now and just around the corner. Find out where your local VFW(Veterans of Foreign War) is located and offer to volunteer. We are not all cut out to be soldiers, however that doesn't mean those individuals can't serve their country as well. You can also visit the VFW website, www.vfw.org, and make a donation to help support the programs that help support our veterans!
